Tommo views Charlie and his older brother, mentor, and protector.

Molly love Charlie but sees him as someone who needs to be protected. She asks Tommo to look out for him during the war.

Big Joe looks to Charlie for assistance. He depends on his younger brothers to look out for him.

The Colonel is a mean and vindictive man, who accuses Charlie of being a thief.
