Before he falls for Elizabeth, Mr.Darcy felt women were the lesser of the sexes. He felt they were prone to emotional outbursts and intellectually inferior. Much of what Mr. Dsrcy felt was often cloaked in civil undertones. He felt he could easily read women but he, being "mr. aloof", could never be read himself. Elizabeth, a simple country lady, changes all this.
