Neither of the proposals Elizabeth receives are heartwarming. Both Darcy and Mr. Collins propose as if they're doing her a great favor. Collins' proposal announces his willingness to marry her regardless of her family's financial status, all while reminding her that her lack of money insures he will not ask for her hand more than once. Darcy, however, makes it sound like he doesn't want to love her, and like Collins, also notes her family's lack of money and genteel behavior. Both proposals are insulting to say the least, and they equally deserve her rejection..... which they receive.
