Hi,

I love Pride and Prejudice and I am doing a research paper on Jane Austen. So lets see if I can help you out. To question 1. Lydia's predicament was predictable because she was spoiled by her mother and was a flirt with all the officers it says in chapter 14 volume 2: " Her father, contented with laughing at them, would never exert himself to restrain the wild giddiness of his youngest daughters; aand her mother, with manners so far from right herself, was entirely insensible of the evil. Elizabeth had frequently united with Jane in an endeavour to check the emprudence of catherine and lydia; but while they were supported by their mother's indulgence, what chance could there be of improvement? Catherine, weak-spirited, irritable, and completely under Lydia's guidance, had been always affronted by their advice; and Lydia, self-willed, and careless, would scarcely give them a hearing. They were ignorant, idle, and vain. While there was an officer in meryton, they would flirt with him; and while meryton was in walking distance, they would b e going there for ever."

So basically, Lydia was an uncontrolable flirt and her mother only indulged her, and her father didn't care. Elizabeth and Jane were the only role models, and Lydia didn't care what they thought.

Hi again, I ran out of room, so I will try to keep this one short but no promises. Question 2; I basically already said why the parents were ineffectual in handilng the situation in my previous post. Question 3; which visit are you talking about let me know and I'll try to help. Question 4; He treated the gardiners very different than her family because he was trying to show her that he changed, and that he wasn't
