Are the various events throughout the novel realistic for the time the novel is set in? For example, isn't it quite unrealistic that the friends Bingley and Darcy each chose a Bennet when social class and wealth were very big issues at the time and the Bennets were not exactly as wealthy as them?

For the time, they may be quite realistic. The characters are fictional, but the stories could have belongs to anyone.
