How does Mr. Bingely's absence affect Elizabeth's attitude toward the danger of first impression? Why is this ironic?

Elizabeth criticizes first impressions now that Bingley seems to be rather a jerk for standing up her sister. Elizabeth herself, however, is very much affected by her own first impressions of people throughout the novel.
