Mr. Darcy is a product of high English society. He initially sees marriage as part of social hierarchy and economic partnership. Mr. Darcy is certainly the pride part of the equation. Elizabeth slowly brings Mr. Darcy some perspective in what is really worthwhile in another person and a relationship.
