Explain why did Mr. Darcy's conduct made Elizabeth "proud"?

Mrs. Gardiner tells Elizabeth that it was Darcy who found Lydia and Wickham, it was Darcy who paid Wickham the money that made marriage possible. Finally she strongly hints that Darcy did this all for the love of his Elizabeth.
