The main difference is that the narrator of "Lather and Nothing Else" is not insane where as the narrator in Poe's "The Black Cat" is more than likely insane. Poe's narrators in his short stories are unreliable to the extreme: we really are not sure what to believe. Tellez gives us a narrator that seems reliable and grounded. He is a good interpreter of people as his job as a barber demands this.
