TELL TALE HEART

Notice how cautiously the narrator sets up the murder of the old man? How does he do this? Why does he take so long before killing him?

The narrator is somewhat egotistical and wants to show off his skill in planning. He plans for many days trying to be sure that nothing can go wrong. He even gets "excited" to do the crime as he focuses on the "I" (eye). Once he decides to kill him, however, he does it very quickly.
