Tell tale heart

It is difficult to pull out themes in Poe's stories because the narrators tend to be most unreliable. What we are left with are themes surrounding madness and hubris more than anything societal or value based. The narrater in Tell Tale Heart has delusions of grandeur and a paranoid fixation on his old room mate's eye. Beyond his incessant self praise and abhorrent nature, there are not too many themes that work.
