Pickup on South Street Irony

Pickup on South Street Irony

Big Business

Candy hears Joey describing what he is doing with the microfilm and tells him he sounds like a criminal. Ironically, Joey replies that what he is doing isn't criminal, it's big business and it's cutthroat.

Tip

The Captain asks for a tip from Moe, an informant of his. She knows who he's looking for, but ironically she won't tell him unless he pays her for the information, which he does.

Break-in

Candy has broken into Skip's shack on the waterfront to steal back the microfilm. Ironically, she is suspected to be a thug and Skip punches her and knocks her out.

Microfilm

Skip asks Candy what is on the microfilm, and she tells him that they are pictures of her war hero brother that she is trying to send to her mother. Ironically, the film contains a chemical equation that will be used by the Communists to potentially endanger America.

No Chance

Joey says he can't go down to see Skip because he doesn't want to be recognized and it's dangerous. Ironically, he is willing to send Candy down without a thought.
