I think small children are frightened but quickly become indoctrinated into the ideology they are brought up with. They interpret the world within the context of their society. A man labeled a terrorist in the West could be a freedom fighter in parts of the Middle East. Children are pretty impressionable and often seek cultural norms. Even today, children view politics and religion through the lens of their culture.
