Does the character of Grenouille transform throughout the book or does his view on life, and aptitude towards others remain the same?

-Usually in many novels, the main character transformsm either mentally, physically or psychologically. I understand Grenouille's main purpose in his life was to create this "ultimate" perfume, but other than learning the tricks in the art of perfumery, does he gain an understanding of life and does his personality change?

No, I don't think he changes.... except of course in terms of the depths of his obsession. His preoccupation with scent (which is very believable in context it's presented) amplifies over time......... so does the gruesomeness, but I don't think Grenouille changes......... I don't think he's ever given a chance.

Grenouille is singularly possessed; he has only one goal and one interest. Very little occurs in his mind; he doesn't develop any relationships (he's incapable and has no social attributes at all), and he has only one true gift; he's a genius of scent.
