What is the main purpose of Chapter Two in "Outcast United"?

The purpose of Chapter Two is to lay out not only Beatrice's own personal history, but the volatile history of her home country Liberia as well. This chapter helps us to understand the reason Beatrice was forced to flee Liberia, and also to understand what the years she spent in the refugee camp before resettling in Clarkston were like. We are alos apprised of her welcome to America........ something that included being mugged and robbed.
