Paula Balegmire and her children moved all the way from the Democratic Republic of Congo 
to Clarkston.  Map the larger political and historical events that led to Paula’s need to flee 
the country.  Describe her personal journey and difficult decisions in her trek from the DR of 
Congo to the United States.  Some research on the history of the Democratic Republic of 
Congo will be helpful in understanding the reason for the violence in that country.  What
