when the stage manager says, "in our town, we like to know the facts about everybody". What is he saying about the town?

There are those who would say that this means that the people of the town are nosy and want to be in everyone's business.  However, as we watch Grover's Corners and its stories unfold, we find that the people are truthful and honest; knowing the facts is actually a good way to keep in touch with people and know what they are thinking and how they are doing.
