The duke first listens to Brabanzio's claim that his daughter Desdemona has married someone because of some kind of witchcraft; the Duke seems disposed to listen to Brabanzio until Othello appears. Once Othello tells his side of the story, the Duke is more disposed toward Othello whose story of his falling in love with Desdemona is supported by Desdemona herself. Ultimately, Brabanzio is stuck with accepting the marriage and must withdraw.
