Othello

Act 5, Scene 2

When Othello comes to kill Desdemona, he refers to her in exalted Petrarchan imagery(example: her skin as white as “snow / And smooth as monumental alabaster” [5.2.4-5]).

b. What is the significance of Othello’s constant references to putting out the light?

Putting out the light refers to death.... to putting out the light of life.
