Barbantio is reckless in his judgment. He, like many Venetians, accepts Othello as a great soldier but certainly not as a suitor to his wife. Othello remains a moor and any thought of a union with his daughter is blasphemous. Barbantio merely judges Othello by skin colour. He pays little heed to what his daughter wants: Desdemona is more property to him than anything else.
