what is the importance of reputation in Othello??

its evident that iago wouldnt have been able to do what he did without such a good reputation for being honest, like in act 3 scene 3, othello presses him for why he says "indeed!"
this is because he believes iago is an honest man and wants to know his opinion on the subject, because if he didnt have the reputation for being honest iago, othello probably would not care what he had to say on the matter.

Im still trying to figure out some other things though

if anyone could put forward their opinion/knowledge on the subject it would be much appreciated.
thankyou.
