Oryx and Crake

How do both Crake and Jimmy react differently to moments of tension ? what can be assumed is Atwood’s intent through these portrayals.

Jimmy is a "word person" living in a society filled of highly logical, scientifically oriented people. Often times he finds himself alone in his thoughts. Unlike his best friend Crake, Jimmy has a depth of understanding that extends beyond the pragmatic realities of scientific knowledge. Over the course of the novel, Crake turns from boy to brilliant teenager to mad scientist. Crake separates himself from humanity to reside within the realm of scientific methodology. Unlike Jimmy, Crake has no problems ending the world to create a super race based on himself. Crake's existential apocalypse seems a logical extension of the amoral world they live in.
