Crake really does cause Jimmy to do things he would not have ordinarily done. Jimmy and Crake's parental relationships are reflected in their later lives through their romantic and platonic interactions. As both Jimmy and Crake had absent or dead parents, their understanding of nurturing relationships is maimed. They find "entertainment" in snuff films and generally socially abhorrent ideas. When Crake becomes part of the corporate elite, he draws Jimmy further into a world of disposable feelings and a relativism that knows no moral compass.
