Would the treatment of the patients be considered ethical in current standards

The treatment in the book of mental patients would be considered unethical by todays modern standards. There is electro shock therapy but it is much more advanced and targeted. The abuse and manipulation these men went through would hopefully have more checks and balances today. There may still be people like Nurse Ratched around but they probably would not hold the sort of power she had. The mental ward in the book was more like a prison than a hospital.
