The fog is gone because Bromden has decided to become proactive...... to join with the other men in protesting Ratched's behavior and treatment of the patients. In choosing to join the other patients in resisting her authority, Bromden loses the safety of the fog he's been hiding behind for a very long time. He also makes himself vulnerable.
