This was a different time and a different approach to mental health. From this context I find the story completely believable. THe shock-therapy sessions seemed like something out of a historical textbook. The therapy sessions were flawed because nurse Ratchet was flawed. This human fallibility is at the heart of this story which makes it very realistic for me.
