Setting

I need to know when this story is set. Iknow its in the late 50's or early 60's but i need to know within 2 weeks of the date for my class. My teacher said that it will come through indirect description but i cant seem to find any clues.

I think its just before JFK is elected, end of 1960, as they joke they're going to vote for eisenhower again... but saying that, before i thought of this i was convinced it was 1953... probably needs some research, hope it helps anyway.
