How is the wall a example of irony

The wall was supposed to be built to keep those who's skin is black out unless a maid or a gardener

The irony is in the fact that people were looking to protect the beauty of their neighborhood by erecting a wall that hid the beauty anyway.

They no longer paused to admire this show of roses or that perfect lawn: these were hidden behind an array of different varieties of security fences, walls and devices.
