why does monk want the all convesation in secret?

Monk doesn't wish for anyone to know that he is conspiring against Oliver or to take a chance that their relationship will be discovered. If it were discovered, Monk's and his mother's inheritance would be at stake, as both Monk and Oliver shared the same father. At this point, Oliver's origins are unknown, and for his own financial gain, Monk wishes it to stay that way.
