Why is Crooks lonely

Carley's wife is lonely because she is the only woman on the ranch. Candy is lonely of his age. Why is crooks lonely?

Crooks is lonely because he is the only African American on the ranch, and as such suffers the effects of racism and segregation. He isn't welcome in the bunkhouse with the white ranch workers and spends his time alone in his room in the stables. Thus, we can see that he lives a very lonely life.
