Why don't George and Candy follow up with the farm dream?

Though Lennie is dead George and Candy still have the resources to continue with the dream. Why don't they?

The dream belonged to Lennie more than the others. Without Lennie to take care of, George would gain independence and the ability to build an independent life. But...... for all we know, Candy and George did go onto buy their own place and work their own land. We'll never know for sure.
