why does curley's wife talk to lennie in the barn?

Curley's wife is bored, lonely, and looking for attention. The other men are busy, and Lennie is alone in the barn. Curley wouldn't welcome her presence amongst the men, so she does the next best thing (or so she thinks) and talks to Lennie.
