why does crooks mean and cold to lennie? does crooks want him there?

Crooks is protective of his little hovel by the stables. He lashes out at a clueless Lenny out of his own frustrations of being segregated from the other men because of his colour. In reality, Crooks is very lonely and craves company, even the company of Lennie.
