Curley's wife is naive. She says that she met a guy at the dance hall who claimed he would put her in the movies. Of course, this man never wrote back. Curley's wife wanted a better life and had unrealistic dreams of being in the pictures. Now she is merely the possession of an abusive husband who has a bad case of small man complex.
