My page numbers may not match yours but thew mood darkens when George and Linnie get to the ranch. There is a sense of impending violence, especially when Curley shows up. Even Lennie with his limited intelligence reacts to the dark tone of the place, Lennie cried out suddenly—"I don' like this place, George. This ain't no good place. I wanna get outa here."
