Do you think that George means it when he says to Lennie, "God you're a lot of trouble...I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn't have you on my trail?

George doesn't mean it. He says this just to vent his frustrations. George always apologises to Lennie in his own way. George would feel lost without Lennie as we see at the end of the book.
