George and Lennie are heading to a ranch in the Salinas Valley. They were in Weed, a town in the far northwest corner of California. They stopped in San Francisco to get tickets for work and a bus ride to the ranch. They sleep out near a peaceful pond before they head to the ranch in the morning.
