In what ways are animals significant in the novel "Of Mice and Men"?

Descriptive language early in the text compares Lennie's actions to that of an animal.

"Drank with big long gulps, snorting into the water like a horse"

Curly takes on the agressive stance of dominant male throughout the text- protecting his territory

Crooks- relegated to the stable like one of the animals

Candy's dog is shot because he's in the way...... Lennie is shot in the back of the head like an old useless or injured dog or horse

Rabbits- represent the dream
