Crooks

The stable buck at the ranch, Crooks is also the only black man in the novel. A proud and bitter man, Crooks has a cynical intelligence and a contemptuous demeanor that he uses to prevent others from inevitably excluding him because of his race. His defensive manner fades, however, once Lennie behaves kindly toward him, and he even considers helping Lennie and Candy with their plan to buy land until the threats by Curley's wife force him back into his normal combative posture.

a good quote to use is "a long box filled with straw"

you can do a close word annalysis on the word box as it could represent a coffin. this could show how the only way crroks can escape from the ranch is deth. also the fdact that ghe sleeps on straw could show that he is treated with little comfort and that he is treated likme shit by the owners of the ranch.

anothyer good qoute witch is at a* level is how crooks tells lennie that he (crooks) isnt allowed in the bunk house. also link this with what candy says to george in the 2nd chapter. i dont know what the exact qoute is but it is when candy is saying what hyappend at christmas. he says somthing about they let the nigger (crooks) in and some one called smitty took after the nigger. this is implieing that crooks is inly allowed in the bunk house to entertain the others.

i hope this helps and i how i got you in time.

a good quote to use is "a long box filled with straw"

This quote shows how crooks is being treated like an animal as in the novel Slim's pups also do sleep in a box with straw. steinbeck presents crooks as if he is sleeping on a coffin. This is shown by him sleeping in a box filled with straw.
