Slim has a gentle and soft way about him that is not challenging. He simply is curious about why George and Lennie travel together. George finds Slim's gentle way of asking inviting. The Boss and Curley are accusatory. They ask George with a sense of aggression and mistrust. Slim agrees that it is better that two guys have company than be isolated while the boss and Curley still regard it with suspicion.
