How does George help Lennie with his fear of Curley?

George initially tells Lennie to stay clear of Curley. He tells Lennie that Curley has it out for big guys. George says Lennie should go to the other side of the room. Later, when Curley is hitting Lennie, George tells Lennie to protect himself.
