Of Mice and Men

Curley’s “eyes flashed over the George, took in his height, measured his reach, looked at his trim middle.” What is Curley thinking? Why do you suppose he is so pugnacious?

Curley is sizing George up for a fight. Curley hates being a small guy. He is a boxer and always wants to prove he is as tough as bigger guys. This is how he compensates for his small stature.
