Why does Lennie leave Curley's wife body in the barn, but take the puppy with him when he leaves to go to the river? Evidence from the text.

Lennie covered up the body as best he could, but he thought the puppy might make the situation even worse. He took the puppy to throw it away.

"I’ll throw him away," he said. "It’s bad enough like it is."
