Chapter 2 of mice and men

look back at the paragraph on pages 33-34 about slim. does steinback seem to respect mule skinners? what evidence in this paragraph helps us to know?

I don't know about "mule skinners" but Steinbeck does like the character of  Slim. Slim is known as the "prince of the ranch." He's a gentleman and a leader. He is sensitive but firm when he needs to be. He does not talk much but when he does, he is imparting some kind of wisdom or reflection.
