Of Mice and Men

Candy tells George, "I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog."

Foreshadowing is a literary device that hints at what will happen later in the story. Write what later event it foreshadows.

This foreshadows George having to kill Lennie at the end of the novel. Unlike Candy, George does shoot his friend out of compassion.
