The Boss is only interested in the work that can be done for his ranch. He is an authoritative figure who grills George and Lennie about being late. He wants to be in the know about his men. He thinks that George might be taking advantage of Lennie. He can't seem to comprehend any sense of loyalty and friendship between two grown men. His questions are pointed with aggressive undertones. He is the sort f guy that enjoys intimidating people. He expects subservience and the work to be done as he directs. He knows the men are in a position of no power.
