what do dogs have in common with people in the film?
Slim's dog is named Lulu . . . and someone refers to Curley's wife as a "looloo."
Candy's dog is his best friend, and he is useless, so he is disposed of. Similarly, George's best friend Lennie is in big much trouble, so George kills him. The difference, of course, is that Candy allows Carlson to shoot his dog (Carlson hates the dog), while George kills Lennie himself out of love and kindness.
The smallest (most vulnerable) puppies are drowned, and the weakest humans are also disposed of. Slim says, "I wish somebody'd shoot me if I get old and a cripple."

After Candy's dog is killed, Candy tells George that it should have been him to put his dog out of it's missery, George takes this into consideration as he doesnt want curley to kill Lennie. George would rather kill Lennie 'Humanely' rather than being tortured by Curley.
