Oedipus thinks that he is pretty great. He quotes himself saying, "Oedipus, famous among all men." I think his naiveté stems from a false sense of his own worth and what he is capable of. Oedipus of course kills his father and marries his mother so perhaps he needed a reality check earlier in his life.
