Oedipus Rex or Oedipus the King

What does it say about Oedipus and his feelings of guilt (or lack) that he clings to the illusion that Polybus was really his biological father?

Certainly nobody wants to find out they killed their own father without knowing it and married their own mother. Clinging to the illusion that Polubus is his real father gets Oedipus off the hook, at least in his denial ridden brain.
