Of all the gods, why does it have to be Apollo who destroys Oedipus?

Apollo is the god of prophecy and Apollo's prophecies are the ones Oedipus tries to avoid. When all is said and done, Oedipus cannot avoid the prophecies since his fate is to kill his father and marry his mother. He cannot escape what the god predicts.
